An exceptional mantel timepiece, the case made for Benjamin Vulliamy and the watch movement signed Jessop, London 2834 of 24-hour duration.

The typical late George III period Vulliamy lion clock case is in the form of a white reeded drum surmounted by a gilt brass urn and supported on carved anthemion scrolls. It is set on a stepped black marble base flanked by two bronze seated lions each with a gilt ball under its paw. The larger black marble plinth has inset gilt brass engine turned panels within gadrooned borders and stands on four turned gilt feet.

The 3-inch convex white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals and a dotted minute band and is set within a cast brass bezel. The watch movement is enclosed within the original gilt metal back door and protected by a signed brass dust cover. The plated movement is also signed by the maker and has a finely engraved balance cock and silvered regulation disc.
