A mid 19th century quarter striking ebonised mantel clock.

The five glass case surmounted by a gilt brass handle with foliate terminals over the rectangular case with canted corners and bevelled glass panels raised on the moulded plinth base and four turned brass feet.

The signed 3 ¼” gilt Roman dial with blued moon hands, engraved with profuse flowers amongst foliage.

The signed and numbered two train fusee movement with strike/silent, maintaining power and rack strike on two steel gongs, the lever platform escapement with cut and compensated bi-metallic balance and keystone timing weights, fitted with regulation read via a scale engraved to the edge of the platform.

* This clock was most probably made by Richard Webster who was apprenticed in 1800 and free of the Clockmakers Company in 1807. He is listed in Brian Loomes’ “Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World – 21st century edition” as working between 1810 and 1840 and was a member of the well-known Webster family of clockmakers.
