WILLIAM NORTH. A GEORGE III PERIOD 8-DAY FLAME MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK

A handsome George III period London mahogany longcase clock with 8-day hour striking movement, Strike/Silent in the arch, subsidiary seconds, inset date work and maker’s signature, William North London, on a raised disc within the matted brass centre. The well-chased brass rococo corner spandrels are of exceptional quality.

The beautifully proportioned flame mahogany case with its original pagoda top has an original wax finish and excellent patination. The moulded trunk door has reeded brass quarter columns in the trunk and a raised panelled base, a feature of only the best cases of the period.

Height: 92.5 in (235 cm)

* William North is recorded on page 575 of Brian Loomes’ Clockmakers of the World - 21st Century Edition as working in London in the last quarter of the 18th century.
