A very rare 18th century oak sundial with Roman numerals carved in horseshoe fashion around the edge. They run from VI in the morning on the left until VI in the evening on the right hand side.
Verum Soli (the truth of the sun) is carved along the top border and along the bottom edge there is the signature of the maker: J Twemlow. The central gnomen from which the sun’s rays emanate is missing. On the back of the oak panel, the maker has inscribed it as follows:

who was 40 years master of this School
