A beautiful William and Mary period oyster olivewood and panelled marquetry and greenbone inlaid side table of excellent colour and patination.

The well drawn table stands on four turned barley twist ash legs which terminates in four bun feet. The original X cross stretcher has a central oval panel which matches the decoration of the top and the frieze drawer.

The rectangular top has four corner spandrels with exquisite foliate and floral marquetry set within an ebony background. The oval central section has a bird perched among the flowers and green leaves arising from an urn. There is an external banding of sycamore around the edge of the table and alternate ebony and holly stringing separating the olivewood oyster veneers from the floral marquetry panels.

The original oak lined drawer has a printed label for Brinkburn Priory on the underside.

Height: 27 ½ in (71 cm)

Width: 37 ½ in (95 cm)

Depth: 26 ¼ in (67 cm)

* There is a very similar table illustrated on pages 116 and 117 of Adam Bowell’s book English Furniture: 1660-1714 From Charles II to Queen Anne.
