* George Brown was a well known clock and instrument maker in Beverley and it is very interesting that he is thought to have been active in York for a time. The case of this architectural stick barometer bears a strong likeness to those made and signed by Batty and Jonathan Storr of York. George Brown is listed on page 109 of Brian Loomes’s Clockmakers of the World: 21st Century Edition as working in Beverley, Yorkshire from 1781 – 1800. It is stated he was possibly in York prior to 1785.
