A rare William and Mary period marquetry and olivewood side table.
The top is beautifully inlaid with a central oval panel that features a large bowl of carnations, tulips and feeding birds set within a light coloured sycamore background. It is framed by four quarter-round floral reserves set into a ground of finely figured olivewood. It has sycamore crossbanding around the edge and the top terminates in a half-round cross-grain olivewood moulding.
The frieze features a single long oak lined drawer inlaid with further marquetry of tulips and foliage, with a central brass escutcheon, flanked by brass axe head handles.
The table stands on four elegant barley-twist ash legs, joined by walnut veneered cross stretchers. The legs terminate in four original turned bun feet.
